Who Is Eligible for These Benefits?
In order to be eligible for Supplemental Security Income, you must meet certain requirements. Not only must you be resident of one of the 50 states, but you must also fall under specific injury categories.
These include the following:
- Age 65 or older
- Suffer from blindness
- Have a disability
In addition to that, you must have limited income and resources or else you will likely be considered ineligible for extra income. Defining a disability is probably the most challenging part. Unlike blindness, a general disability can be harder to identify and define. According to Social Security, a disability is any injury or disease that prevents an individual from doing substantially gainful activity (employment) and can be expected either to result in death or last at least a year.
What Type of Injuries Qualify as Disability?
